This meeting will review the current state of discussions on developing the ten year framework of programs on sustainable production and consumption, as proposed at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg last year. We will also discuss what ideas and actions US and other civil society organizations can contribute to this global effort.

The World Summit identified changing production and consumption patterns as one of the three overarching objectives of sustainable development, and highlighted the critical role which increasing consumption and production played in the past ten years undermining overall progress towards sustainability, despite the many efforts to raise public environmental awareness and improve technology and ecoefficiency.

The 11th Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development, April 28 - May 9, will also be discussing this ten year framework as a part of the CSD's future work program. Share your thoughts and suggestions as to how the CSD and other international organizations and governments can more effectively address the challenge of changing unsustainable production and consumption patterns over the coming decade.

Our thanks to UNEP-RONA for hosting this meeting.
