Whistleblower policies at development banks inadequate
Based on a press release by Global Accountability Project
Multilateral development banks (MDBs) have insufficient policies in
place to protect the free speech of internal whistleblowers and ensure
effective action is taken, according to a new report by the Global
Accountability Project.
None of the four banks investigated received a passing grade, and GAP
found that current policies were not able to ensure that whistleblowers
could make a difference against corruption they discover.
Several banks plan to revise their policies as a result of the effort.
In September 2004 and March 2005, the Department of Treasury is expected
to issue it's own report on the progress of implementation of new anti-corruption,
outside audit and transparency guidelines within the MDBs.
