NYC transportation funds from the the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
On March 30, Mayor Bloomberg announced that $261 million in new federal money will fund projects throughout all five boroughs, and create or preserve approximately 32,000 jobs.
The Bloomberg administration is using the stimulus funding to support key economic development initiatives across the city, supplementing the City's Capital Plan.
Cities produce surprisingly low carbon emissions per capita
In the April issue of Environment and Urbanization David Dodman of the International Institute for Environment and Development reports that greenhouse gas emissions of city dwellers are often far smaller than the national averages. He argues that the tendency to identify cities as major culprits in causing climate change diverts attention from the main driver of greenhouse gas emissions, namely unsustainable consumption, especially in the world’s more affluent countries.
